Termas del Arapey, a small resort village in Salto, Uruguay, might be getting its new casino soon. If approved, the new casino will be great news for the country since it will help further increase the popularity of an already popular tourist destination in Uruguay.

Benefits for the whole area:

As Andrés Lima, the Mayor of the city of Salto, says, the government is already working on the new casino, preparing everything needed to finally begin with the development. The plans still need to be approved, but they include the popular tourist destination Termas del Arapey, so local tourism will further benefit from the new property in the area.

However, right now, the main issue is the funding for the project. The government is trying to get the funds for the project from private investors, as Lima claims. According to the source, the Ministry of Tourism is trying to collect funds from investors who are interested in investing in a hotel, water park, and casino room on the property.

One more reason behind the necessity of the new property in the area lies in the fact that it will generate a range of jobs for the residents. Both the public and the government are looking forward to that since there are young people who are still unemployed and looking for jobs, which will be provided to them through the new casino and hotel.

This is the first mention of the casino in the area. In April 2023, it was announced that the new water park would be constructed on the site of the Arapey Municipal Hotel. Back then, the public was informed that the hotel, which had been closed since the pandemic, would be transferred to a private company in order to build the water park. The casino hasn’t been mentioned until now.

Huge plans for the future:

Recently, many casinos in Uruguay are going under renovations. One of them is the San Rafael Hotel in Punta del Este, which was recently acquired by the Cipriani Group. The hotel, which was closed in 2011, was bought in February 2018 for an impressive amount of more than US$40 million. The works on the renovations are currently in progress

But that’s not all: the government is working hard on building new casinos and hotels in the country. The Secretary of the Presidency of Uruguay recently shared the news about a new hotel and casino resort. The new property will be situated in the city of Paysandú, and its estimated worth will be US$22 million.

A casino is expected to be reopened in Colonia as well, and the tender is expected to be held soon, according to the Undersecretary of Tourism, Renzo Monzeglio.
