Pennsylvania’s Mount Airy Casino is facing a heavy fine after the state’s Gaming Control Board has found alleged incidents of underage gaming as well as drinking. The Gaming Control Board announced in a press release that the casino was fined $170,000 for 17 different incidents involving individuals under 21 entering the gaming floor. The incidents date back to 2016.

Alcohol Served:

In eight of the 17 incidents cited by the Board, the gamers who were underage were served alcohol. Fourteen of the incidents included individuals who were either 19 or 20 years old. The Board noted that one instance at Mount Airy Casino involved a girl that was 12 years of age on the floor.

The board also noted that in some instances, the individual who accessed the gaming floor was underage and was able to gain entry not once, but several times. The board found an instance where a 20-year-old visited the casino three times in two days and was not only served alcohol but was given a player’s card.  An 18-year-old was also allowed on the gaming floor, four times total, played the slots and was given alcohol.

Satellite Casino Approval:

Currently, Mount Airy is waiting to gain approval for a satellite casino to be constructed in Big beaver. If approved, the casino would take almost a year and a half to construct, based on information previously provided by the facility.

If approved, the venue would bring around 500 full-time employment positions as well as temporary construction jobs. The venue would be allowed to have 750 slot games and 30 table games. The first phase of construction would include the gaming areas while the second phase would include a resort hotel, restaurant, convention center and more.

It is unclear as to whether or not the recent fine will affect the decision of the Gaming Board for the new casino. The Board will meet on January 9th where they could approve the application by the group for the new casino.
