Earlier this week, World Mahjong Limited announced additional details for the World Series of Mahjong 2015, both land based and online gaming options. The Venetian Macao will be using their Milan Ballroom to host the fourth World Series of Mahjong Championship in the month of December. On the 5th and 6th, the casino ballroom will host the championship with tickets to the main event now on sale.
The WSOM Championship is the largest mahjong tournament in the world, when considering player participation and prize money up for grabs. The WSOM has an exciting line-up of locations that span the globe, with the announcement of qualifying games now taking place in Canada and the Philippines in 2015.
The Philippines qualifier will be hosted by the City of Dreams Casino which is located in Manila’s Entertainment City. For Canada, the River Rock Casino Resort will be hosting the qualifying rounds. Players who take part in the land based qualifiers will be competing for a seat in the World Championship, with a limited number of spots open.
The WSOM is now in it’s fourth year and could have a potential prize pool of $575,000. Three previous champions will be competing in the big event this year, as they qualify automatically. They include:
- Hui Chung Lai 2007 Champion
- Ho Kwok Hung 2008 Champion
- Chan Tak Kwan 2010 Champion
The WSOM will be hosting a number of qualifying games up until the Main Event tournament begins in December. Below are the dates and cities set for qualifiers:
- Hong Kong: October 31
- Canada: November 1
- China (Guangzhou): November 6-8
- Japan: November 7 & 10
- Australia: November 9
- Philippines: November 21
Online qualifiers will also be taking place, with free practice provided by PerfectPairs Gaming/GigaFunTown. Online qualifiers have already started and it is recommended by former champions to take advantage of the practice before heading into game play.
