Fairmount Park, a storied racetrack in the Metro East area of St. Louis is set to revolutionize the Illinois gaming and racing industry by introducing a new casino complex, marking its transformation into the state’s first racino. This historic enhancement aims to merge traditional horse racing with contemporary gaming amenities.

Integrating slots and racing:

The new facility at Fairmount Park will feature an impressive array of gaming options, including 271 slot machines and an exclusive collection of 40 premium games. According to Vince Gabbert, Sr. VP of US Gaming and General Manager at Fairmount Park Casino & Racing, the addition of a casino to the racetrack environment is poised to enhance visitor experiences significantly. “Soon, folks will be able to come in and enjoy the casino as well as racing here at the track,” Gabbert noted, emphasizing the quality and popularity of the newly installed games.

The temporary casino setup is currently housed in the grandstand as part of the initial phase, with plans for a more expansive second-phase development underway. This development is spearheaded by Accel Entertainment, Inc., a prominent distributed gaming operator, which is investing between $85 to $95 million in the project to enrich both the casino facilities and the horse racing experience.

Located at 9301 Collinsville Rd., Fairmount Park has been a linchpin of the local sports and entertainment scene since 1925. As the only active horse racing venue in the greater St. Louis area, it traditionally hosts 65 race days and approximately 435 races each year. The racetrack is gearing up for an exciting season starting April 22, with races scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday until November 1.

The racino expansion is not just a win for fans of gaming and horse racing; it also represents a significant employment opportunity. According to FOX 2, Fairmount Park is looking to fill over 200 new roles, ranging from security officers and cage cashiers to slot attendants. These positions are aimed at bolstering the operations of the new facilities and will offer comprehensive benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans.

Expanding job opportunities and community engagement:

As it embraces its new identity as a racino, Fairmount Park is committed to becoming a cornerstone for job creation in the area. The management encourages interested individuals to explore the opportunities available as the complex expands. Information about job openings and applications can be found on the park’s official website or by contacting their office directly.

The integration of a casino within Fairmount Park is a strategic move designed to leverage the growing appeal of combined racing and gaming facilities. With this development, Fairmount Park is set not only to enhance its offerings but also to attract a broader audience, ensuring its place as a premier entertainment destination in Illinois for years to come.
