Marriott International will manage two new hotels in Vancouver when the Parq Casino opens next to B.C. Place next January. One of the hotels will be a new “Autograph Collection” boutique luxury hotel called The Douglas and the other will feature the city’s largest ballroom.

Parq Holdings is the developer and will own the hotels along with the new casino. The project will cost about $600 million to complete. Parq Holdings is an affiliate  of Paragon Development Ltd. Parq recently saw the resignation of its president, Michael Graydon, the former CEO of the B.C. Lottery Corporation. Grayson was found to have been in conflict of interest when he took the position in 2013 while still working for the lottery. No criminal wrongdoing has been alleged and no charges were filed.

The hotels and new casino, carrying the license of the Edgewater Casino which will be closed, will be part of a 675,000 sq. ft. urban resort. 72,000 square feet of gaming space and four restaurants will be in the casino while four more will be inside the hotels.  A 6,000 square foot spa area is also planned, along with 5,000 sq ft of retail space. Gamblers can expect to find about 600 slots and 75 table games. The combined total of rooms will be  569 with 329 keys in the JW Marriott, and a 188 in the boutique, “The Douglas”.

50,000 sq ft of food and beverage space and a multi-level parking facility will round out the offering.

The development will be the first LEED gold certified hotel project in Canada.  Equity partners and co-developers in the development are Dundee Corporation and Dundee 360 respectively.
