In efforts to lock down illegal gambling activity in Malaysia, authorities have shut down more than 500 online gambling sites from operating in the country. Based on the language of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the country has taken measures to remove many sites from activity in the area.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek is the Communications and Multimedia Minister of Malaysia and has stated that the blocks were put in place after the Royal Malaysian Police placed written requests in for blocking such activity. Technician assistance has been provided by the Communications and Multimedia Commission to help solve any issues related to the gambling activities. Such assistance includes restricting access to the gambling sites that have been deemed illegal by government authorities.
