Apparently the European Commission’s recent warning to the Netherlands is not being taken seriously by that country’s government. The EU has threatened to take action against the Netherlands and other countries that it feels is violating trade agreements within the European bloc. Despite the warning, the government has issued a request to banks based in that country to block transactions involving online gambling.
A document listing 50 online gaming companies has been distributed to banks along with asking them to stop doing business with the gambling concerns. Although at this point it is merely a request, the government also gave the list to the public prosecutor for further action while the country is trying to formulate more specific laws. There action is very similar to American legislation requiring its banks to block gambling transactions.
