Phil Ivey is one of the most recognizable faces in poker, having competed in major events and featured on high stakes poker television shows. The poker pro enjoys live gaming most but will play online as well. Over the past year, Ivey has been seen very little due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now that live events are coming back, we expect to see more of him. In a recent interview, Ivey announced he has plans to compete in the upcoming World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Focusing on a Reset

Recently, Ivey spoke with Joey Ingram, a podcast host, discussing all things poker as well as traveling, playing online television, and a host of additional topics. During the interview, Ivey talked about what he had been doing for the past year.

Because of COVID-19, Ivey had time to focus on himself. He had time to reset himself and realize what is important and what is not. Ivey said the pandemic was a good time for him as he was able to exercise, meditate, and yoga.

As far as poker is concerned, Ivey is ready to get back to live gaming. He wants to travel and play. He likes to play online poker, but he prefers to be able to look at his opponents. Right now, the pro is looking to play on television again and is ready to get in on the WSOP action.

Ivey says that he is not sure about a full schedule during the WSOP, but he plans to play in a few events. It will be nice to see the pro at the felt, after a long hiatus.

WSOP Back in Action

In April, the WSOP announced that the online series, as well as live events, will be back this year. The live version of the WSOP usually takes place in the summer but this year, the events have been pushed to the fall.

Las Vegas will host the series again in the fall, with the schedule running from September to November. The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will play host as normal. Very little has been provided when it comes to the WSOP schedule. We expect more details will be announced in the coming months as the series draws near.

There is no doubt that organizers are trying to be cautious due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While the number of positive cases has eased due to vaccinations, it could still come back full swing this summer or into the fall months.

The WSOP will remain up to date on the latest regulations and protocols regarding the virus. Nevada officials and gaming regulators will be consulted up to the event to ensure player and employee safety.
