On Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 the Arizona Cardinals announced that they are set to lose their most polished and reliable veteran wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, for the 2nd – time during this 2021 – 2022 season of the National Football League.
As of now Hopkins is anticipated to have to sit out the remainder of the 2021 – 2022 NFL regular season due to a severely sprained knee in which DeAndre suffered during the Arizona Cardinals’ Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Arizona Cardinals in that Monday Night Football game from Glendale, Arizona with a final score of 30 to 23.
The Arizona Cardinals are very much so expecting to get Hopkins back on their active roster at some point during the 2021 – 2022 NFL season’s playoffs as long as everything seems to go as planned. DeAndre is expecting to seek a second opinion on his injured knee with Dr. Neal ElAttrache sometime soon. It is still up in the air whether Hopkins will require surgery in order to repair his banged – up knee.
According to the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Kliff Kingsbury, Hopkins underwent an MRI on Tuesday, December 14th, 2021. Kingsbury also reiterated that Hopkins would be receiving a second opinion on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 most likely to determine if the knee injury will require surgery or not.
The Arizona Cardinals most decorated wide receiver in Hopkins endured his most recent ailment with the spraining of his knee during Monday night’s devastating defeat to their NFC West opponent in the Los Angeles Rams. With just 1 – minute and 13 – seconds left in the ball game, DeAndre rose up between 2 – Los Angeles Rams defenders in the end zone, in an attempt to complete a pass thrown by his quarterback Kyler Murray and unfortunately for him both of the Rams’ defenders came down on the top of his legs.
Hopkins then proceeded to roll over on his knees riving in pain, and the veteran wide out did not play for the rest of that Monday Night Football game versus the Los Angeles Rams.
DeAndre has previously missed 3 – football games earlier during this 2021 – 2022 NFL season due to a hamstring injury.
Hopkins currently leads the 10 and 3 Arizona Cardinals with his illustrious 8 – touchdown receptions this year, which is only his 2nd – NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals franchise, who previously acquired DeAndre through a blockbuster NFL trade with the Houston Texans just a year ago.
If Hopkins does end up missing the remainder of the regular season this year, DeAndre will be limited to disappointing career lows in games with 10 – games, receiving yards with 572 – receiving yards, and receptions with only 42 – catches for the surging Arizona Cardinals.
The 5 – time NFL Pro Bowl selection entered this 2021 – 2022 season with previously only having missed just 2 – football games throughout his 1st 8 – pro seasons in the National Football League.
