Just recently, the Meadowlands Racetrack announced a partnership with the Hard Rock International, in which the two have proposed the creation of a new casino in North Jersey, near the New York metro area. State Governor Chris Christie has now come out in favor of the proposal if the deal will use tax revenues to help bring Atlantic City back to life.

During a radio show, in which Christie speaks monthly, the governor stated that he has not been presented the proposal but he has heard the discussion that legislators plan to place the idea on the November ballot. The statewide referendum to expand gaming in the northern portion of New Jersey would be something he would be on board with.

Since 1974, gambling has been restricted to Atlantic City only, which is currently struggling with budget issues. Christie pointed out that as competition around the state continues to grow, something must be done to keep New Jersey in the competition.
