In preparation for the September opening of its $960 million casino and entertainment complex in the city’s South End, MGM Resorts International is reportedly moving into its corporate offices at 95 State St in Springfield, Massachusetts.

MassLive reports that the 11-story building, formerly known as the MassMutual building, will be home to offices for administrative workers and executives, with the first 50 of what is expected to eventually be 300 workers having reportedly moved in.

According to an earlier report, a rough breakdown of the 3,000 permanent jobs promised to be created by MGM Springfield includes the hiring of a minimum of 1,000 individuals to work casino floor positions such as dealers, slot machine techs, pit managers etc., 115 hotel workers and 800 food, beverage and culinary workers.

The Downtown Springfield, MA property that will reportedly span three city blocks, also reportedly expects to fill 500 general administrative jobs, 55 for maintenance and engineering and 80 to fill valet parking, bus greeting and similar positions.

According to MassLive, MGM Springfield President and COO, Michael Mathis, said on Monday, “Moving onsite is a great way to kick off the year of our opening.”
“We have a growing workforce and this office space better suits our ever-expanding needs as this momentous new year unfolds. This is an exciting transition for all of us,” said Mathis.

MGM officials reportedly said that included in the renovations was the preservation of many of the building’s historic features while also bringing the building up to modern day standards and comfort.

Vice-president of facilities for MGM Springfield, Jason Rosewell, reportedly said the features in the building constructed in 1929 include a large amount of natural light from the new windows that were added and line the building.

Included in the complete renovations of the 89-year-old building were new plumbing and finishes, mechanical and electrical, said Rosewell. Preserved was the historic classical revival exterior of the structure, as reported by Mass Live.

The design and outfitting of the employee space was reportedly a collaboration between Las Vegas-based Friedmutter Group and Springfield firms Specs Design Group and Dietz & Company Architects, MGM said.

According to Rosewell, features of the interior ranged from open work areas to small and large conference rooms.

Covering more than 14 acres and 2 million square feet of space, the property will include 125,000 square feet of gaming space, a 250-room boutique hotel with 25 floors, a bowling venue and a six-screen theater and more.

Earlier this month, MGM Springfield invited job seekers who are interested in being trained for various table game jobs at the new MGM Resorts International property to attend a series of information sessions and Massachusetts Casino Career Training Institute (MCCTI) registration dates in January and February.
