American casino operator, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, has announced the appointment of two new senior directors as it works to achieve its stated long-term goal of becoming an industry leader around the world.
Pair of Senior Vice-Presidents:
The firm behind Connecticut’s giant, Mohegan Sun, integrated casino resort used an official Thursday press release to reveal that Michael Silberling has been hired to serve as its Chief Operating Officer while Tom Smock has been engaged as its latest General Counsel.
An enterprise of the federally-recognized Mohegan Tribe, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment is additionally responsible for Pennsylvania’s Mohegan Sun Pocono gaming venue and explained that both hires are to moreover carry the titles of Senior Vice-President.
Appointments complete ‘executive leadership team’:
Previously known as the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority until a 2017 name-change, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment detailed that Silberling and Smock are to officially start their new roles early this month with their introductions rounding out a ‘core executive leadership team’ that the operator has been developing over the past twelve months.
Recruitment ‘directly aligns’ with operator’s goals:
Mario Kontomerkos, Chief Executive Officer for Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, declared that the experience and background of Silberling and Smock ‘directly aligns’ with his firm’s goals of growing to be ‘the premier global gaming and entertainment resort developer and operator.’

Michael Silberling:
Mohegan Gaming stated that Silberling possesses over 30 years of industry experience and was most recently Chief Executive Officer for Affinity Gaming where he was responsible for helping the Las Vegas-based casino operator to create ‘significant guest service and operating margin improvements.’ Before this, it explained that the 51-year-old served as International Operations President for Caesars Entertainment Corporation after joining from London Clubs International where he had overseen some 15 casinos across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
Tom Smock:
Uncasville-headquartered Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment explained that Smock is set to bring more than 20 years of industry experience to his new post and most recently worked as Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for all of the Asian properties managed by Las Vegas Sands Corporation. In this post it detailed that he had been ‘instrumental in the development and opening’ of Sands Macao while furthermore supporting the development of The Venetian Macao property as well as Macau’s Cotai Strip.
