In the United States, casino operator the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has announced that it has changed its name to Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment in an attempt to better reflect its growing domestic and international status.

An enterprise of the federally-recognized Mohegan Tribe, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment is responsible for the giant Mohegan Sun development in southeastern Connecticut as well as Pennsylvania’s Mohegan Sun Pocono and is partnering with Incheon International Airport Corporation and South Korean chemicals manufacturer KCC to construct the $5 billion Inspire Integrated Resort on Yeongjong Island.

“The change in the name to Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment has been made to better reflect where we are today as far as an overall entertainment company and our advancement as a major player in commercial gaming worldwide,” read a statement from Mitchell Etess, Chief Executive Officer for Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment. “Our brand has become synonymous with outstanding gaming operations so this change is an organic development aligned with our brand evolution.”

Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment declared that its Uncasville-based Mohegan Sun development, which offers a 364,000sq ft casino complete with a complement of 5,532 slots alongside 370 gaming tables, has grown “quickly” since opening its doors in 1996 and now stands as “one of the western hemisphere’s premier integrated resorts” by delivering “unforgettable experiences” to over nine million visitors a year.

The operator earlier revealed that the Inspire Integrated Resort is to be its first venture outside of North America with a first phase expected to open in 2020 offering a 20,000 sq ft foreigner-only casino featuring some 1,500 slots and 250 gaming tables alongside a trio of hotel towers with around 1,350 rooms. The South Korean venue is to moreover eventually include a 15,000-seat arena and a theme park as well as convention space, shops and restaurants.
