The JOA Group (Jouer Oser s’Amuser), a prominent name in the French casino industry, is set to add a new gem to its portfolio by establishing its 34th casino, and the first in the picturesque city of Saumur, Maine-et-Loire. This announcement comes as the city has chosen JOA Group as the delegate for the ambitious project that involves the transformation of the former Le Palace cinema into a vibrant casino and leisure complex.
Revitalizing historic spaces:
Located in the heart of Saumur, France, Casino de Saumur will occupy a site steeped in history. The former Le Palace cinema, known for its cultural significance, will undergo a complete renovation thanks to an investment exceeding 8 million euros. This significant financial commitment underscores JOA Group’s dedication to preserving the architectural heritage while infusing it with modern entertainment and leisure facilities.
“Thanks to Mr. Mayor Jackie Goulet and all the elected officials of Saumur for their trust and to all the JOA teams who worked tirelessly on this call for tenders,” expressed Laurent Lassiaz, CEO of JOA Group.
According to the announcement the company published on LinkedIn, slated to open its doors in March 2026, the Saumur casino is designed to be a balanced mix of leisure and gaming facilities. With 50% of its area dedicated to recreational activities such as a bar, restaurant, and entertainment zone and the other half to gaming, the establishment aims to offer a comprehensive entertainment experience. The leisure offerings will include a restaurant, a sports bar, and an entertainment and show area, all crafted to cater to both locals and tourists.
The gaming section will house 125 slot machines and four traditional gaming tables featuring blackjack, roulette, and poker, providing a classic casino experience amidst modern amenities.
Cultural homage and economic boost:
The casino’s interior will pay homage to Saumur’s renowned equestrian tradition, incorporating thematic elements that reflect the local culture. This thoughtful design is aimed at enhancing the visitor experience, connecting them with the city’s heritage.
Moreover, the project is expected to create 67 permanent jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy. “In addition to creating 67 permanent jobs, the project will generate significant economic benefits for the city,” added Mr. Lassiaz, as G3Newswire reports. This development is poised to become a pivotal economic and social hub in Saumur, promising substantial returns to the community in terms of employment and tourism.
The long-term commitment of JOA Group is evident from the 20-year public service delegation signed with the city. This partnership reflects a shared vision of growth and development between the JOA Group and the city of Saumur, aiming to transform the historic site into a bustling hub of activity and leisure that resonates with the vibrant life of its residents and visitors alike.
