On September 15 Sun International announced that the sole remaining opposition to relocating their Morula Sun Hotel and Casino license to Time Square Casino at Menlyn Maine Pretoria had been withdrawn.
An issue had been before the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, South Africa brought by bingo operator, the Goldrush Group. The Tshwane area bingo operator had objected to Sun’s plans to relocate their Mabopane license to Menlyn Maine in Pretoria.
Goldrush will reportedly relocate one of its bingo licenses to Morula when Sun withdraws for the Pretoria market.
Sun International said in a statement, ”The target opening date for Menlyn Maine of September 2017 will be achieved.”
The company plans to spend approximately R3 billion (US$224 million) on the new facility.
The largest previous hurdle to their plan had come from former rival Peermont Group. However in March of this year Sun bought out Peermont, effectively negating that opposition.
