On Tuesday, August 1st, 2023 the Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver, Cooper Kupp, underwent an MRI on his injured hamstring after leaving practice early Tuesday night. Sources close to the Los Angeles Rams have said the L. A. Rams will be extremely cautious with Kupp’s latest injury, but that he could be returning back to his team, “for scrimmages in a few weeks.”
The Injury
Kupp who won the Most Valuable Player Award of Super Bowl LVI managed to walk off of the field under his own power with the Los Angeles Rams medical training staff approximately 30 – minutes into a scheduled 2 – hour workout at the University of California – Irvine campus.
The Los Angeles Rams quarterback in Matthew Stafford as well as some other Rams players did not witness exactly what happened that caused Kupp’s injury, but the Los Angeles Rams head coach, Sean McVay, mentioned that he was told Cooper pulled up abruptly after running a red zone designed route.
An unnamed team spokesperson for the Los Angeles Rams confirmed that Kupp was injured during the workout to some of the major sports media outlet reporters later on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.
“Obviously, we’re much better when he’s here, and we hope he’s going to be OK,” the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay expressed. “If he’s not, we’ll see what happens, but the practice had to go on.”
Cooper Kupp
Kupp is returning for the 7th – season of his NFL career following him having to miss the last 8 – football games of the 2022 – 2023 NFL season due to a high ankle sprain. Cooper also was forced to miss the last 8 – games during his 2nd – season playing wide receiver in the National Football League back in the year of 2018 because of a torn knee ligament injury.
The Best Season of Cooper Kupp’s NFL Career
Cooper won the National Football League’s triple crown of receiving back during the 2021 – 2022 NFL season as he led the NFL in catches with 145, receiving yards with 1,947, and touchdowns with 16. Kupp starred big – time throughout the Los Angeles Rams’ postseason run that eventually culminated in 2 – huge touchdown catches during Super Bowl LVI, including the game winning touchdown with just 1 – minute and 25 – seconds remaining to play in that exciting game.
Last year Kupp had pulled in 75 – catches which was good for 812 – receiving yards as well as 6 – touchdowns receptions throughout the 9 – NFL games that he played in during the past 2022 – 2023 NFL season prior to Cooper’s high ankle sprain.
The Los Angeles Rams Team is Young & Inexperienced
Kupp is just one of several key core players left with the Los Angeles Rams, who are likely to field the National Football League’s least experienced and young team roster this season following the Los Angeles Rams parting ways with many of their veteran depth during this present 2023 NFL offseason. Stafford as well as Aaron Donald are back with the Los Angeles Rams, who put together a poor season of recording an overall record of 5 and 12 last year in the worst season in league history immediately following an NFL Super Bowl victory.
The now 30 – year – old wide receiver in Cooper is anticipated to be quarterback Stafford’s go – to – target again during this upcoming 2023 – 2024 NFL season.
“I just want to know what’s going on,” the Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback Matt Stafford explained. “That’s the main thing, and I’ll figure that out at some point. But I trust our guys, and whatever is going on, I know he’ll do everything he can to work through whatever is going on and be back out here whenever it’s the right time.”
The L. A. Rams open the 2023 NFL preseason versus their counterpart in Los Angeles with the Chargers on Saturday, August 12th, 2023.
