The MGM Cotai project of MGM China is moving along nicely with the company recently celebrating the topping off of the Cotai, Macau property. The casino has a unique design, similar to a jewelry box, and will offer 1,500 hotel rooms and suites, along with amenities including a high end spa, retail shopping, restaurant dining and meeting space. The property will also be home to the very first international Mansion at MGM which will provide a luxury guest experience.

In a press release, MGM Cotai stated that the property is being developed to drive greater product diversification and bring more innovative and advanced forms of entertainment to the area as the property grows as a global tourist destination.

The topping off ceremony included a Chinese Bai Sun ceremony which involves cutting of a roasted pig and an incense offering. After this ceremony, a Western ritual took place with a pine tree lifted towards the highest beam of the building.

Jim Murren, the CEO of MGM, stated that the ceremony marked a milestone in the history of MGM as the company is now one step closer to unveiling the MGM Cotai. According to Murren, when the property is opened in 2016, the venue will be a must-see attraction and a welcome addition to the global tourism of Macau.
