A Dealer School Open House was held on Tuesday and will take place again on Thursday for individuals who are interested in starting a career in the casino industry in Maryland. Oxon Hill Manor hosted the open house to show just what it takes to become a card dealer at the new MGM National Harbor.
The new casino is expected to open this July and will require dealers for card games. Individuals hoping to find employment at the casino were able to attend the open house to gain access to information on registering for dealer school and learning about the program.
Blackjack classes have an enrollment fee of $360 and will begin this Monday, as reported by wjla.com. The blackjack classes are a prerequisite for other dealer classes, which will have another cost. The Communications Director stated that tuition assistance is offered in some cases.
Vice President of Table Games, Jeffery Elmore, commented on the dealer school, stating that it is his job to get everyone in the community to work. Elmore actually started as a security guard then moved on to a dealer position then his role as VP of table games. According to Elmore, it is very rare to see someone walk into a dealer job without experience. The casino wants to train people in the community and give them the opportunity for a career in gaming.
