MGM Springfield recently announced that it would break ground on the 24th of March with a special ceremony for its proposed $800 million casino. MGM officials have fought hard over an extended period of time to overcome a number of objections and gain all the necessary approvals to break ground. The casino has already paid $85 million for the state’s licensing fee.

The location for the proposed Springfield casino will be presented on the 23rd of March to the Springfield City Council. MGM plans to construct a 250 floor luxurious hotel that will have a total of 25 floors and a 125,000 square foot casino floor. The casino will create over two thousand construction jobs which will mostly be given to residents of Springfield and an additional two thousand jobs once the casino is opened. The city will also receive a minimum of $17.6 million dollars every year from the casino.
