In a significant move to uphold the integrity of its gaming laws, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has intensified its crackdown on illegal online gambling operations. The focus of their recent enforcement efforts is Papaya Gaming, a Tel Aviv-based company that has been found operating without the necessary licenses in Michigan.

The action against Papaya Gaming followed an extensive investigation initiated by an anonymous tip received by the MGCB. The inquiry revealed that the company was actively offering four mobile applications—21 Cash, Bingo Cash, Bubble Cash, and Solitaire Cash—where players could engage in games for real money, a clear violation of state regulations.

Henry Williams, the Executive Director of the MGCB, emphasized the agency’s dedication to maintaining a safe and regulated gaming environment. “The Michigan Gaming Control Board firmly believes in a regulated and safe gaming environment,” Williams stated in a press release. “Illegal gambling is not tolerated in Michigan, and we will take all necessary actions to protect our residents from such unlawful practices.”

Michigan’s stringent online gaming laws are outlined in several legislative acts. The Lawful Internet Gaming Act stipulates that only licensed operators can offer internet gaming services, primarily limited to established casinos and authorized tribal entities. Also, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act and the Michigan Penal Code collectively prohibit unauthorized gambling operations, making them a felony with severe penalties including potential imprisonment and fines up to $100,000.
