According to reports on Asia Gaming Brief and VietNamNet Bridge, a proposed casino on the northeast side of Phu Quoc Island could move to the northwest instead. Thursday April 16, 2015 news reached several portals indicating the Ministry of Construction in Vietnam was requesting a move of the proposed casino. The ministry asked the Prime Minister to allow for a different location for the project because it would be easier to get investors interested.

The casino is currently planned to be built on the resort island of Phu Quoc at Da Chong Ward in Bai Thom. However, the ministry would like to move the project next to Vinpearl Resort which is on the northwest side of the island.

The new location is 37 hectares in size and located in a zone for luxury tourism. Investors will need to spend $4 billion for the project to create 200 to 400 live tables, 2,000 machines, and a 3,000 room hotel with conference center. The ministry of Planning and Investment has already approved the new location according to a local news site VnExpress report. The ministry of Construction  needs the Prime Minister’s approval for the change in plans to go forward.
