In the state of Connecticut, there are two federally recognized tribal groups that will be making a public proposal to open casinos within the state. The public will be able to weigh in on both tribal proposals which would see smaller casinos created and operated jointly. The casinos would be built to help fight competition out-of-state.

The Mohegans and the Mashantucket Pequots are the tribes listed in the legislation which would allow three new facilities to offer gambling options within the state. A public hearing is scheduled for this afternoon that will allow the public to learn more on the legislation. Democrats are pushing for the bill to be passed into law with the concerns of job losses when the MGM Resorts International opens a casino in Springfield, which is located nearby in Massachusetts.
