Players worldwide are sure to appreciate NetEnt’s latest release, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot, which transforms the best-selling 1991 arcade game developed by Capcom into an online slot and joins the supplier’s ever-growing range of branded titles.
The new 5-reel, 5-row Cluster Pays video slot does its best to live up to the second installment in the legendary fighting series produced by the Japanese video game developer and publisher. Helping it along, the game features the original eight main characters including E. Honda, Zangief, Ken, Blanka, Dhalsim, Ryu, Guile and Chun-Li.
“We designed the game to fuel players’ nostalgic competitiveness throughout the gameplay.”
Character option:
With its spin on the classic Capcom video game, the slot mimics the battle mechanics of the sequel to the original 1987 hit by pitting the character the player chooses against challengers and allowing the reels to determine the victor. Each character affects the game in a different manner.
The level of damage a character receives is determined by winning combinations, and battles are ongoing until one fighter uses up all of its health points. A losing player’s honor can then be redeemed, and they are also able to win some cash, in the Car Smash Bonus Game. Winners, meanwhile, trigger the multi-level Beat the Bosses Free Spins and go up against the four bosses, Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison, with a Multiplier increasing at each level.
Players who are victorious over all four bosses are crowned the World Warrior Champion and also receive and extra prize, which altogether makes for gameplay that does a good job upholding the nostalgia and excitement of the original arcade game that gained global fame.
Authenticity factor:
In addition to its gameplay, NetEnt also harnesses the genre-defining graphics of the original competitive fighting game as well as its unique soundtrack and animations, in order to stay as true to the brand and best-selling title as possible.
In an official press release, Director of Games for NetEnt, Bryan Upton, explained the importance of authenticity in designing the new game…
“In developing Street Fighter II: The World Warrior Slot™ we felt a huge responsibility to ensure our slot game lived up to the iconic 90s original – a videogame which has continued to entertain fans for almost 30 years.
“Authenticity was a critical factor to the design of this game, from the arcade-inspired art and sounds to the game mechanics, as well as the Beat the Bosses and Car Smashing bonus rounds. We designed the game to fuel players’ nostalgic competitiveness throughout the gameplay. We are immensely proud of the end product and we hope players all over the world appreciate it.”
The Swedish supplier of digitally distributed gaming systems announced the new addition to its branded games hall of fame back in February, and at the time, Upton said, “It is a dream come true to work on brands like these.”
New-look lobby:
More recently, NetEnt unveiled a player-orientated Lobby and Mini-Lobby with user-friendly design, enabling seamless navigation between games. The new-look lobby is intended to enhance player engagement by providing more opportunities to play. It also allows operators to choose from generic branding options that are available to all partners or create a bespoke environment.
