The 2017 World Series of Poker has been in full swing for several weeks and the brand recently announced that the nomination process for the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame has begun. The WSOP has certain criteria that must be followed in order for individuals to be nominated for the induction process. Just a few days ago, the WSOP announced the nomination process is open and fans can now submit who they would like to see considered for induction. Individuals can provide one submission per valid email address.

Individuals nominated must be at least 40 years old and have played poker against acknowledged competition for high stakes as well as play well consistently and have gained the respect of their peers. Players must have stood the test of time in the industry as well. Individuals who are not players will need to have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game in order to be eligible for nomination.

Last year, the finalists for consideration into the Poker Hall of Fame included Chris Bjorin, Carlos Mortensen, Matt Savage, Todd Brunson, Chris Moneymaker, Bruno Fitoussi, Max Pescatori and Humberto Brenes. Todd Brunson and Carlos Mortensen were the next to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2016.

Once the nominations are made, a panel makes the final decision. The panel consists of individuals who are living members of the Poker Hall of Fame along with members of the press. The WSOP looks at cash game results as well as other tours aside from the WSOP.

Many have predicted that poker pro Phil Ivey will be nominated this year and is a shoe-in to be one of the two inductees for 2017. Ivey has accomplished quite a lot during his career as a poker player and is just now eligible as he turned 40 this year. Ivey has been known as an elite player for close to 20 years and it would be hard to find someone who would argue that he does not belong in the Poker Hall of Fame.
