The Indiana Gaming Commission has released the revenue earning reports for May involving the four casinos operating in the northwest region of the state. When reviewing the numbers, the casino saw a small decline when comparing the totals from the same month last year. For May 2018, the four casinos brought in $79.6m which is a decrease from the $81m earned in May 2017.

Breaking down the numbers by casino, the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond saw a decline of just over 3% with $33.7m in earnings. The Horseshoe is the largest casino in Indiana. Blue Chip also saw a year-over-year drop, with $12.8m in earnings, a decrease of 6.2%.

The Ameristar of East Chicago and the Majestic Star in Gary, Indiana were able to see gains in May. The Ameristar earned $19.5m, which is a 2.1% increase from last year. The casino was able to see gains due to an increase in table game play of 25.9%. The Majestic Star was up 1.5% for the moth, earning $13.7m.

Matt Schuffert, the Vice President and General Manager of Ameristar, commented on the revenue earnings of the venue via Nwitimes.com, by stating: “We had decent growth year-over-year. a lot of that was driven by strong table game business in May.” Schuffert stated that a casino renovation project kept a large portion of the property’s slot machines out of operation which lead to a decease in slot game play.

Looking at gaming as a whole, the state’s 13 gambling venues earned a total of $191.1m which is just under the $191.5m earned in May of 2017.
