Several betting companies have called for an end to OPAP monopoly in Greece.  The betting companies state the monopoly is actually hurting the competition and it is also against European Union fair trade practices.

Representatives from several companies including Fair Champions Meridien, Bet on Alfa, Cy Bet and Megabet Plus held a media conference stating they were going to form the Cyprus Betting Companies Association with OPAP as their first issue on the agenda. The chairman of the association says OPAP is first on the agenda in order to abolish it as it should have ended long ago.

In 2014 the Remote Gambling Association expressed concerns over the Greek gambling monopoly as well. OPAP posted a profit of 41% for 2014.
