With one ceremonial roll of the dice at 11 pm, after seven years of planning and more than two years of construction, the $700 million Parc Vancouver officially opened its doors to the public on Friday, Sept 29, 2017.

Touted by developers, Parq Holdings Limited Partnership, as the largest private development in British Colombia, the newest addition to the Vancouver skyline is situated on the north side of False Creek and on the west side of B.C. Place Stadium, where next to the stadium’s Gate G, is a secondary entrance for stadium spectators. The new Smithe Street extension is where you’ll find the main entrance. The roundabout there features “Slow,” a three-meter high stainless steel public art sculpture of a pair of panda’s created by Chinese artist Zhang Huan.

During a morning press conference, Paragon Gaming co-founder, Scott Menke, said, “This entertainment district, the stadium district, as we know it will be changed. Customers coming for any one of the three sports teams or events at the stadium will have an elevated experience,” according to the Daily Hive. Menke added, “I think this project is much more about tourism than anything else.”

Characterized by its exterior bronze mirrors and unique structural shape, the massive building covers a total of 775,000-square-feet and features two high-end hotels; the JW Marriott and the Douglass, an Autograph Collection Hotel, both managed by Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR).

Situated between the sixth and 25th floors, the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver features 281 rooms and 44 suites, 3 luxury suites and a two-floor villa, a state-of-the-art fitness studio and Spa by JW, a 10,000 square foot spa located on the 17th floor. The Douglass features 178 rooms and 10 suites located between the seventh and 17 floors. The latter also boasts a full-sized replica of a Douglas fir and a lobby bar. The Parq, a 30,000 square foot one-of-a-kind outdoor park located on the sixth floor, connects the hotels. The building’s “crown jewel” is reportedly home to a body of water and 200 native pines.

Through both hotels, guests will have access to the wide range of amenities at Parq Vancouver, including downtown’s only casino, the relocated Edgewater Casino, which occupies 72,000 square feet of space on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The 2nd floor offers direct access to Gate G and B.C. Place, which makes for a seamless flow between the two venues. It is the only casino in the province designed to allow natural light, as both gaming levels feature floor-to-ceiling windows. Parq Vancouver is also the first LEED gold certified hotel project in Canada.

Other casino amenities include 75 gaming tables located on the main floor and the Salon level, with baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, Sic Bo, and poker. And 600 penny to five dollar slot machines, a poker room, and 11 exclusive salons where guests can enjoy a private gaming experience including in-Salon or lounge dining, restrooms, casino cage and full-service VIP hosts.

Eight restaurants and lounges, courtesy of Las Vegas-based Blau + Associates restaurant group call Parq Vancouver home, including 1886, an upscale Chinese restaurant, farm-to-table restaurant Honey Salt, The Victor, a high-end steak and seafood restaurant located on the outdoor rooftop garden and the Lotus Whiskey and Tea Lounge, which during the day serves tea and at night serves whiskey. The Parq’s other two eateries, BC Kitchen serving comfort food and MRKT East, inspired by Singapore night markets; offer a more casual dining experience.

Spanning 62,000 square feet, Parq Vancouver’s meeting and convention space boast 13 ballrooms, meeting rooms and boardrooms, including Vancouver’s largest ballroom, the 15,600 square foot Parq Grand Ballroom.

Vancouver’s new casino-hotel destination resort reportedly employs 2,000 people, 600 of which staff its lounges and restaurants. The Daily Hive also reports that Parq Vancouver plans on providing $1.5 million to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation to help fund its treatment and research of addiction disorders.

Parq Holdings Limited Partnership is a joint venture between Paragon Development Ltd., Dundee Corporation (TSX:DC.A), and PBC VUR Limited Partnership.
