On Thursday, April 23, 2015 Governor Gina Raimondo, of Providence Rhode Island approved a bill. She received a Senate bill and House bill that would change legislation allowing a Twin River Casino project to go ahead. The casino has permission to build a hotel on their Lincoln property. Raimondo stated she accepted the bill because it will provide new economic opportunities for her state.
State Representative Jeremiah O’Grady entered the bill into legislation in March. The bill changes legislation with regards to building a hotel. The restriction of combining a hotel with a casino was put in place to protect Providence hotel owners. They were worried about competition. However, Twin River casino is facing new competition with Massachusetts casino hotels.
Twin River Casino reports show a loss of clientele crossing into Massachusetts for the benefit of gambling and accommodations. George Papanier of Twin River Management Group, stated that the hotel will provide 200 temporary construction jobs and 100 permanent, full time jobs once the hotel is built.
