After announcing the opening date for September, the Sky River Casino opened early. Officials announced this week that the casino opened for business yesterday morning, a few weeks ahead of schedule.
In a Facebook post, the California casino stated the official bets had been placed and asked followers what game they were excited to play first. The casino is located in Elk Grove and offers a large gaming floor with dining and additional entertainment.
What the Property Offers
Now that the Sky River Casino is officially open, guests can enjoy all it offers. Construction began in March 2021 and cost $500 million to complete. The gaming floor is quite large, featuring just over 110,000 square feet of space. Players will find 2,000 slot games here plus 80 table games. The property also includes a high-limit area.
For players who want to stay overnight, the casino will offer a large hotel with 302 guest rooms and suites in the future. The hotel has 12-stories and includes a ballroom, meeting space, luxury swimming pool, spa, and fitness center. For now, travelers can only access the casino and certain restaurants.
Several on-site venues feature fine dining along with bars and lounges. Because the property opened early, guests can now visit sooner than anticipated. It will be interesting to see how much traffic flows through the property this week and into the weekend as players get to know this new gaming venue.
It is important to note that the casino operator already posted on Facebook about traffic and warned guests that if the casino parking lots or the interior reaches maximum capacity, then the staff will have to shut down the parking lots. Officers have been assisting the property with traffic control. Guests will want to plan accordingly when traveling long distances to visit the casino in anticipation of traffic.
Additional Details
The new casino is expected to be quite busy and be an economic stimulus for Elk Grove. The venue is closest to Sacramento and the South Bay Area, which should bring in traffic from these areas. The Wilton Rancheria, a federally recognized tribe from Elk Grove, owns the casino.
The tribe teamed up with Boyd Gaming to launch the casino. For the first seven years of the casino’s operations, Boyd will be in charge. The brand has vast experience in casino gaming, with 28 casinos operating in 10 different US states. Boyd Gaming was founded in 1975 and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
