The citizens of Arizona and the members of the Tohono O’odham Nation have a lot to celebrate these days, as the works of the newest tribal casino, Desert Diamond Casino in Glendale, are progressing as planned.

Huge plans for the new casino:

The topping-off ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 27, and it marked a significant milestone in the casino construction. As the last signed steel beam was installed on the casino, the company decided to celebrate the works.

The new casino is situated near Loop 303 & Northern Parkway, and it will be owned by Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise. After the construction is completed, the total cost of the new casino will be approximately $450 million

The casino is expected to be completed by the end of the next year. The construction began in April 2023, and the estimated duration of the work is ten months.

The casino will be placed across 184,000 square feet, and it will be a heaven for all fans of casino games, with 900 Class II slot machines that provide great fun to everyone craving it, as well as a poker room, retail sportsbook, and various table games, such as blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat. There will also be other amenities, such as various dining options.

The renowned JCJ Architecture was in charge of the whole casino’s design.

After the initial works, the casino will be further expanded to feature a hotel, as well as a huge conference center, an amphitheater, and an event lawn space. There will also be an outdoor pool and various recreational solutions so each guest can enjoy them.

Beneficial for the whole community:

The whole construction process was entrusted to the Hunt/Penta Joint Venture, which was a general contractor, and the construction provided at least 5.500 people with jobs. Once the works are completed, the casino will employ more than 1.000 people.

As Daily Independent reports, a Tohono O’odham Nation Chairman, Verlon Jose, commented: “Today is a major milestone for the Tohono O’odham Nation. We have come a long way in building a more prosperous future for our people and the West Valley, but just like this new casino, we still have much further to go.”

The property on which the new casino is built is placed across 80 acres of the reservation land. It is situated in Maricopa County near Glendale. Similarly to the Desert Diamond Casino West Valley, the federal government took the land into trust.

There are already four Desert Diamond casinos in Arizona: Tucson, Sahuarita, Why, and West Valley, Glendale. They are owned and operated by Tohono O’odham Nation’s enterprise.
