Top online poker provider Unibet Poker has announced they are moving all 2020 land-based poker events online. For 2020, there are three Unibet Open Onlines scheduled, allowing players to take part in the standard events from home during the coronavirus crisis.
Details of the Update:
The Unibet Open Tallinn has been combined with the Online Series. For the remainder of the year, Unibet will not schedule any more live events. The Fall and Winter Unibet Open will take place online, with the fall options et for September and the winter one scheduled for December. Exact dates have yet to be released.
The decision to go online was not taken lightly. Nataly Sopacuaperu, the Head of Events for Unibet, commented that they understand the impact that the decision has on their partners and the land-based venues. However, they must consider the health of their customers and make it a priority as well as consider the difficulty of trip planning due to the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus.
The operator has plans to bring the fun found at land-based events to the online poker realm. They are asking players to submit ideas via the community forum. Players can use the forum to talk to senior members of the poker team to share ideas.
What’s to Come?
The Unibet Online Series will begin May 1st and will offer a guaranteed €1,000,000 in prize money. The series will include a Main Event, scheduled for May 24th. The event will have a buy-in of €1,100. Satellites can already be found at the online poker client of the operator, where players can win tickets to one of the 132 events on offer.
