The college football season got underway last Thursday and let me tell you, it definitely did not disappoint. Most of the top-25 escaped with easily anticipated victories this past weekend while some, like #15 Arizona State, felt the taste of defeat.
Bettors and punters alike took advantage of some big opening week lines; especially as most Division 1 schools started out with relatively soft opponents and crushed even the biggest of point-spread margins. Finishing out the NCAA’s opening week games will be a rematch of epic proportion between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Virginia Tech Hokies.
If you recall, the Hokies were the only blemish on an otherwise amazing championship season put together by the Buckeyes last year. They stunned a crowd of well over a 100,000 fans in Ohio with a blistering attack on defense, picking off quarterback J.T. Barrett 3 times en route to a 35-21 victory. Virginia Tech looks to spoil coach Urban Meyer’s bid for revenge on Monday evening, as they will be playing in front of a packed home crowd for one of the more exciting games on the docket this month.

Why betting the Ohio State moneyline is unwise
This moneyline bet on Ohio State is an absurd wager, mainly because I think the Buckeyes point spread of -14 (-110) will cover much more easily. If Va Tech pulls off a miracle and beats the Buckeyes again, you’re going to be really sore at the $570 you lost because you felt you were a lock to win an easy $100.
Ohio State has too many good things going for the program to lose this game. The Buckeyes are returning a ton of starters, including QB’s J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones, stud running back Ezekiel Elliot and an impressive list of All-American and All Big-Ten DB’s, safeties and linebackers.
Everyone is talking about how good VT’s defense is, but Frank Beamer’s team is just not going to be any match for an OSU squad that really began to click and mesh as an overpowering unit late last season and parlayed that success into a national championship.
Bringing back all those starters from that very championship team, coupled with Urban Meyer’s 13-0 record in season openers, spells trouble for these Hokies. Look to bet on the Ohio State Buckeyes -14 (-110) on Monday night at SportsBetting.ag.
Betting the total points line on OSU/Va Tech
Right now the over/under is 52.5 at SportsBetting.ag (also home of the $50 free mobile bet). While I firmly believe Ohio State wins this game and covers the point spread, I think the game itself stays UNDER 52.5.
This isn’t taking anything away from an overpowering offense that made Ohio State a force to be reckoned with to end the 2014 season. But lets face facts: It’s a season opener. They’re on the road in hostile territory. And head coach Frank Beamer is a defensive genius for Virginia Tech.
Last year, NO ONE expected Virginia Tech to even be close to beating Urban Meyer and Company, especially at home. The Hokies beat them by 14 points and the defense made quarterback JT Barrett’s life a living hell as he threw 3 picks and ended the game with a QB rating of just over 31.
The game itself reeks of “TRAP,” but I think in the end OSU’s defense will hold up it’s end of the bargain and limit any potential damage from Virginia Tech’s offense. Bet the UNDER 52.5 today at SportsBetting.ag (and get your 50% instant bonus up to $500).
