More than 40 years after playing Jethro on the popular 60’s sitcom, The Beverly Hillbillies, actor Max Baer Jr. has plans to keep the sitcom theme alive in a Nevada Casino. The former “Jethro”, who is now 71, is negotiating the purchase of a closed hotel-casino in Sparks, Nevada and converting it to Jethro Bodine’s Beverly Hillbillies Mansion & Casino. Baer, who lives in nearby Lake Tahoe, has already met with the mayor, city council, and other city officials about the possible purchase of the former Silver Club.
Mr. Baer has had a Casino plan for some time now. He even had approval to build a new casino next to a retail complex about 30 miles south of Sparks. Unfortunately, progress on the retail complex seems to have stalled, leaving Baer feeling pressure to look for an alternate option.
The Silver Club is one of six Holder Hospitality Casinos that recently underwent bankruptcy reorganization that left all the properties in the group for sale.
The new Casino is planned to include a facade that makes the exterior look like the Beverly Hillbillies Mansion and restaurant and retail establishment names that pay tribute to the series. Plans for the casino, along with a conceptual drawing, can be seen on his website http://www.jethroscasino.com/
