Rachael Renee Romanick, a 38-year old mother of four, became a multi-millionaire in less than ten minutes of slots play over Easter break. She said her friend practically had to drag her to the casino but I’ll bet she doesn’t argue with him again.
The couple went to the Terrible’s Rail City in Sparks, Nevada on Easter night where Romanick began dropping tokens in the Megabucks slot machine. When the lights began flashing and the display read “Jackpot $33 Million”, she had a hard time believing it was real.
“I kind of froze because this was so unexpected. I had to ask someone if this was for real. I really owe it to my friend. I wanted to stay home but he wanted to gamble and convinced me to join him.”
The maker of the Megabucks slots, International Game Technology (IGT), confirmed the jackpot amount. The company said they were happy to see the prize go to a local resident.
This is the second highest jackpot hit in a US casino and the highest ever for IGT. The highest payout was $39.7 million won at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas back in 2003.
