With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, land-based poker events have been moving online. This week we learned that Casino Malta by Olympic Casino and GGPoker have teamed up to bring the Battle of Malta 2020 festival online. The series will start on November 1 and continue through November 22, with over $30,000,000 in prize money up for grabs.
Going Online
The Battle of Malta is one of the largest poker events to take place in Europe each year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series was going to be postponed. Now, low and mid-stakes players will find the same great action online, via the GGPoker platform.
Casino Malta General Manager Slawomir Switalski commented on the change, stating that Casino Malta was ecstatic to be able to have a solution for the 2020 Battle of Malta and partner with GGPoker. With the festival, Malta will be showcased to a much larger audience, to players located around the world.
Festival Details
The festival will include 15 tournaments that offer the winner a Battle of Malta ring, plus cash prizes of course. The headliner of the series is the Main Event, a tournament with a $550 buy-in and $3 million in total prize money. The event will have several Day 1 flights that will take place starting on November 8.
There will also be a Mini Main Event with a much lower $55 buy-in. This event will have multiple day 1 flights as well as feature a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. For even larger guarantees, players can compete in the High Roller Championship or the Siege of Malta, both featuring $2 million in total prize money each.
GGPoker Director of Live Events & Sponsorship, John Scanlon, commented on the series by stating: “With over $30 million to play for, this year’s Battle of Malta will be just as attractive to poker players as previous year’s live festivals. We hope that everyone who planned to play poker in Malta this year will be able to take part and can’t wait to see who will be crowned this year’s Main Event champion!”
Quality Series via GGPoker
The GGPoker online poker platform is known for offering quality content, so it is no surprise that they have teamed up to host the Battle of Malta. Just last month, the platform hosted the Good Game Series of Poker, their own creation, with 54 events on the schedule.
This series offered up $6.5 million in total prize money. It started not long after GGPoker hosted the WSOP Online Series. The Online Series was a huge success as well, allowing players from all over the world to compete in gold bracelet events.
