Al Garrett isn’t an art hater exactly. He just doesn’t agree with the possible message conveyed by the 15 foot statue of Lenin in front of the Red Square restaurant at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. It was put up in 2005 and he’s been fighting it ever since. His letters and protests fell on deaf ears so he decided to try something new. He now believes the statue has been bad luck for the casino, not something to be taken lightly in the gambling world. Lenin was chosen as a symbol of Russia, but at a casino that lost its license amid other issues perhaps its too much. The casino rallies with statistics to prove it isn’t unlucky with both sides having valid points. However one must wonder if its really as bad as Garrett believes. When told he is protesting a statue of Lenin, some people ask what he has against the Beatles.
