Light & Wonder announced the acquisition of Playzido, a platform provider and game supply company this week. The new deal gives Light & Wonder a significant way to increase its online gaming content capability. Formerly known as Scientific Games Corporation, the company will utilize the many features of Playzido to move forward with its global strategy and work on content creation and supply.
Details of the Acquisition
As part of the deal, Light & Wonder will now have access to the Remote Gaming Server (RGS) platform of Playzido, a proprietary tool. It is one of the best platforms in the industry and works well to quickly customize game development.
The platform will accelerate the way that L&W can work with partner studios and release new game content. The company will be able to help its partners create exclusive content in record time. The acquisition offers faster options to get games to market for studios that do not have a development platform.
Partners can utilize the OpenGaming platform of L&W to distribute their content across the operator network of the company. This provides exciting content potential for operators and facilitates the demand that L&W has seen regarding the development and launch of unique content options.
CEO at Light & Wonder, iGaming, Dylan Slaney commented on the new deal by stating: “The Playzido deal is a perfect example of an acquisition that dovetails with our global strategy, demonstrating yet again our commitment to make targeted value-enhancing investments designed to advance our cross-platform content capabilities.
“Playzido’s platform is one of the best in the industry and we are delighted to be able to harness that technology to help studios and operators globally to develop and distribute game content that will continue to resonate with players. Light & Wonder is the go-to partner for game development and distribution globally, delivering the perfect combination of technology, network, and services.”
Playzido’s Stuart Banks commented as well, stating the deal is a testament to the team’s drive and dedication, as members have been committed to creating a fantastic games platform that helps independent studios and game operators to create content, providing their creativity and innovation on a global scale.
Light & Wonder Rebrand
It is important to note the rebranding of Scientific Games Corporation to Light & Wonder. The rebrand was announced in early March, showcasing how the company wants to change to better execute its plans to become a leading cross-platform global gaming company.
The rebrand process took place shortly after the company signed a stock-and-cash agreement to sell its sports betting division OpenBet to Endeavor Group Holdings Incorporated. Another deal was signed shortly after with Brookfield Asset Management Incorporated involving the company’s global lottery operations.
