MGM Resorts International may have plans to create a casino in Springfield, Massachusetts, however, the company is still showing interest in creating a Connecticut casino. MGM believes that there are several potential sites beyond the 50 miles radius of their MGM Springfield Casino project.
Based on legal papers that MGM filed on Tuesday, the company was interested in the Bridgeport area back in the 1990s for a casino construction. The city of Bridgeport was suggested again, in present times, when two tribes of Connecticut proposed to build joint-owned casinos to try and knock out the competition of other states.
MGM is currently using the constitution to try and challenge a law in Connecticut which would create a process, involving several steps, to create a new tribal casino. MGM is claiming that they are ready, willing and able to compete to create the casino but are prevented to do so based on the new law in Connecticut.
Connecticut officials responded to the claims of MGM, pointing out how the casino operator is restricted to their license in Massachusetts to building another casino within a 50 mile radius of Springfield.
