The Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is now facing opposition to their plan to create a new casino outside the city limits of Guymon, Oklahoma. Residents in the area that are opposed to the casino have created a group called the Panhandle Citizens for Truth in Gaming, to fight the casino project. The group was formed in late February once the plans of the casino were made public.

A casino in the Guymon area has been in the planning stages for about two years now but city leaders and residents of the town are just now finding out these plans, according to reports. Everyone seems to be surprised of the announcement for the casino, with only one group in the know. The Panhandle Regional Economic Development Coalition  knew the plans of the tribe, while everyone else was kept in the dark according to the opposition.  The new casino would be titled the Golden Mesa Casino and would add new jobs and millions in annual revenues to the city.
