PENN Entertainment has officially rolled out its latest digital gaming venture in Ontario with the release of theScore Casino—a standalone online casino app tailored for the province’s regulated iGaming market. The move further cements PENN’s strategic commitment to expanding its digital footprint across North America by capitalizing on the long-established recognition of theScore brand among Canadian users.
Available on iOS, Android, and desktop platforms, theScore Casino offers seamless integration with theScore Bet, allowing users to access the new casino platform with their existing login credentials. This compatibility ensures a unified and uninterrupted gaming experience for current users of theScore’s sportsbook services.
The new product runs on PENN’s proprietary technology platform, the same system powering the U.S.-based Hollywood Casino, which launched as a separate app in December. That platform has garnered industry praise and was recently ranked as the second-best iCasino product in the United States by market research firm Eilers & Krejcik.
A Robust Casino Experience Backed by Original Content
theScore Casino delivers an expansive library of gaming content, featuring more than 1,200 games. This includes a broad selection of slots, classic table games, and a wide range of live dealer experiences. A significant portion of this content originates from PENN Game Studios, the company’s internal game development team responsible for crafting original and exclusive titles.
Among the most notable offerings is Blue Jays Blackjack, a bespoke live dealer game developed in collaboration with the Toronto Blue Jays. This exclusive game exemplifies PENN’s strategy of blending localized branding with high-quality entertainment to enhance player engagement.
Customers can also access theScore Casino within the existing theScore Bet app, providing flexibility in how users choose to experience the platform.
PENN’s Growing Stake in Ontario’s iGaming Scene
Ontario’s digital gaming space has rapidly evolved since the market officially launched in April 2022. theScore Bet was one of the first operators to go live in the province following the regulation changes. With casino products accounting for approximately 76% of the region’s iGaming revenue—generating over CAD$280 million in February alone—PENN is clearly targeting a lucrative and growing segment.
Aaron LaBerge, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Interactive at PENN Entertainment, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, “We’re excited to introduce our dedicated iCasino product in Ontario under the well-known and trusted theScore brand. We’ve built a strong online gaming foothold in the Ontario market and are primed to deliver an even better casino experience with our proven stand-alone app. Our customer-friendly platform features more than 1,200 games, dozens of original titles and intuitive game play that distinguishes our product and positions us for even greater success.”
Responsible Gaming and Future Prospects
In line with industry best practices, PENN has incorporated comprehensive responsible gaming features into theScore Casino. These include player-controlled tools such as time limits, deposit caps, and wagering restrictions. The initiative reinforces PENN’s ongoing commitment to offering a safe and responsible digital gaming environment.
The launch also comes on the heels of a strong financial performance for PENN’s interactive division, which saw quarterly revenue climb from $31.5 million to $275 million year-over-year, contributing to an annual increase from $719 million to $960 million. With additional ventures like ESPN BET expanding across 17 U.S. states since November 2023, theScore Casino represents another key component in PENN’s broader digital strategy.
