Initially set to open in December, the Suffolk OTB Islandia Casino has seen several delays since the project was first announced. Earlier this month, the venue was said to be opening this February and now construction has finally began to get the project off the ground.

The Marriott Hotel in Islandia will be home to a video lottery terminal casino which will house 250 video lottery terminals and an upgraded restaurant. Chuck Kilroy is the casino general manager who first reported the delay until February and stated that other phases of the project will continue so that the remainder of the venue can be opened as schedule.

By May, the gaming venue should offer 500 additional video gaming terminals which will provide even more gaming options for patrons. By the summer months, a total of 1,000 VLTs should be installed along with more food service areas. Kilroy stated that Delaware North wants to put people to work and people are excited about the project. More than 300 employment positions should be created once the venue is up and running with Delaware North at the helm, developing the project and operating the casino for Suffolk County Off-Track Betting.
