Televisa is a media company with a focus on gaming that operates the PlayCity casino brands. The company recently announced plans to expand their gaming offerings in Mexico. A statement was released by the company explaining how they plan on adding casinos around the country in the future.
The PlayCity gaming centers were first opened in 2006 by Televisa in Puebla and since that time, the company has increased their investment of the brand within the gaming industry. The company is currently operating 17 casinos and has the licensing in place to operate a maximum of 55 casino venues within Mexico. This licensing was granted by the Ministry of Interior.
The company showed earnings of $607.368m pesos in the first quarter of last year based on the local daily Millenio gaming and lottery revenues. This is only a portion of the revenue earned by the company when compared to their total sales. The company earns more from their radio business operations and has a focus on live entertainment as well.
As a leading media company for the Spanish community, Televisa provides cable in Mexico as well as a direct-to-home satellite pay television system. The company also takes part in publishing and distributing of magazines, along with radio broadcasting and production and other areas of entertainment.
Within the 17 PlayCity game houses that Televisa operates, there are close to 6,000 electronic gaming machines. Last year, the gaming facilities saw over 4.5 million visitors, based on the latest report by the company. The casino business was able to see positive growth despite facing challenges of the gaming industry including regulatory requirements and restrictions that can affect the casino operations.
