In Atlantic City, the union that represents the casino workers is known as UNITE HERE Local 54. The union has been vocal in all areas of casino employment as of late, including listening to presidential candidates who visit the gambling city. It was announced yesterday that the Local 54 has formally announced their endorsement for Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Senator who is running for President of the United States.

As the largest industry union in the state of New Jersey, the Local 54 has been in the middle of a battle with the Trump Taj Mahal and the Tropicana in regards to employee benefits. In March, the union picketed outside of the Taj in an effort to show the new venue owner Carl Ichan their thoughts.

Sanders commented on the endorsement by the Local 54 by stating that it is an honor to receive the endorsement and that his campaign is built on movement of millions of Americans who demand that the economy works for everyone and not just the one percent. Sanders went on to state the hard-working men and women of the hospitality industry of New Jersey are a vital part of the movement that is currently spreading to every area of the country.
