American casino operator Wynn Resorts Limited has announced that the planned $2.1 billion Wynn Boston Harbor Resort waterfront hotel and casino near Boston is scheduled to open in June of 2019.
According to a report from The Boston Globe newspaper, Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts Limited revealed the date to members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Thursday while declaring that it expects to have up to 250 workers on the 33-acre Everett project by the end of the year.
“For the first time, today I say before the Massachusetts Gaming Commission that casino construction is under way,” Robert DeSalvio, President for the Wynn Boston Harbor Resort, told The Boston Globe.
DeSalvio explained that construction on the Massachusetts development, due to sit along the banks of the Mystic River, began last month after Wynn Resorts Limited won an appeal against the project brought by the neighboring city of Somerville and subsequently received a waterfront development permit from the state’s Department Of Environmental Protection.
The mayor of Somerville, Joseph Curtatone, had argued in the lawsuit that the giant casino would worsen traffic and harm air quality with the newspaper reporting that he is still considering whether to file a separate action in Superior Court, which would need to be submitted by the end of play on Monday.
