Yggdrasil, the game development arm of Swedish gaming company Cherry AB, has taken on South African platform provider Intelligent Gaming Limited (IGL) as a franchisee, marking its entry into the African continent.
The Johannasburg-based company is the latest firm to become part of Yggdrasil’s franchise solution, and following regulatory approval and successful integration, the leading content aggregator in the South African iGaming market along with its range of operator partners, now have access to Yggdrasil’s games.
All-access pass:
Hailing it as a “milestone achievement,” as they “penetrate a massive market opportunity,” Andrew Pegler, Director of Commercial Operations for Yggdrasil, said in a company press release…
“This deal provides them with everything that has been created by Yggdrasil in the past eight years and will enhance their growing business operations in Africa.” Pegler adds that IGL is an “ambitious, experienced, and well-connected supplier” that sees the “huge potential of taking a Franchise in their key markets.”
As a franchise partner, the South African company has access to Yggdrasil’s entire end-to-end game development process, the YG platform inclduding its standardized GATI technology solution and game promotional tools by way of BOOST. The franchise solution allows partners to control their own iGaming strategy and hasten content development and distribution.
Reputation enhancing partnership:
Courtesy of the franchise partnership, IGL’s reputation as a premium provider of online gaming content will be be extended within its local markets. And will, via the franchise, be able to seamlessly scale operations and subsequently provide its African operator partners and players with roughly 150 games from Yggdrasil.
Also commenting on the alliance, Marc Plaxton-Harrison, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer for Intelligent Gaming, said they are “extremely proud” to be a franchise partner for Yggdrasil in South Africa and Africa.

Supabets to lead launch:
Via the franchise solution, the Johannasburg supplier of digital content will distribute Yggdrasil’s premium online casino library in addition to third-party games from the successful YG Master program. Tier one online sports betting brand and online casino brand Supabets, will be IGL’s first operator to offer the i-Gaming software company’s games.
A leading supplier of digital content to operators in South Africa, Intelligent Gaming’s Supabets is one of the most popular online gambling companies in Africa. In addition to South Africa, the brand also boasts a vast retail and digital business in other African countries including Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.
Recently, IGL inked a partnership deal with Gibraltar-based content provider Pragmatic Play in a deal that sees Supabets become its first operator to gain access to the supplier’s multi-vertical product suite and is the first operator in the South African market to make the digital range, including slots, live casino and virtual sports, available to its players.
