generic general world

The year 2014 saw a variety of changes in the gambling world from three and potentially four casino closures in the former mecca of Atlantic City, to furthered Downtown revitalization in Las Vegas, plummeting profits in Macau, and the complete closure, then re-opening, then closing again of casinos in Kathmandu offering just a taste of the turmoil. novomatic group

According to news reports, the powers that be in the capital of Austria decided in November to ban all slot machines not on casino floors. Today they can be found in petrol stations and other unregulated environs. Some estimates put the number of slot machines in the capitol at over 2,500. There are about 10 legitimate casinos in the Vienna metro area. The ordinance or law is to come into effect in January 2015. Part of the given reasoning for the ban was that slot machine rooms outside of casinos tend to be in less affluent neighborhoods. On February 17 […]

By Lars J On December 12, 2014 • No comments yet

SNAG-0022

The Invisible Man is a 5 reel slot from NetEnt with 20 fixed paylines that officially released December 11, 2014. What a long strange trip it’s been since H.G. Wells published his novella in 1897, to the 1933 classic horror film, dozens of adaptations and spin-offs over time, and the final culmination in a true go-to slot at the end of 2014. In a nutshell, this game is packed with known and new NetEnt features and capitalizes on their ability to deliver a slot that gives players a feeling of near constant participation (via usually low paying action features) and […]

MassGaming Commission

When voters in Massachusetts passed an expanded gambling bill in 2011 (which recently survived a referendum to abolish it) part of the law mandated that  the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) minimize any negative consequences of gambling in the state. It was recently announced here and elsewhere that the MGC would undertake a study and publish data to set a scientific baseline to benchmark the reality of gambling, rather than the fear mongering on one side and possible hype on the other side of the contentious issue. Ahead of the data, the MGC has decided to take a proactive approach to help players […]

Massachusetts to study gambling impact

By Neha A. On December 9, 2014 • No comments yet

Mass

In 2011 an expanded gaming law was enacted in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After much debate between supporters and opponents alike, it has been decided by the people of this state that this law should stay in place. One of the key features to the expansion of the law was that a study needs to take place to determine the economic, as well as any social impacts of allowing casino gambling. Many ideas and opinions, both pro and con, regarding gambling come out of myth, self-interest, and anecdotal information, so, it is important as far as the state is concerned, […]

Macau drops in monthly rev. for 3rd month

Macau is the largest casino centre in the world, and has had a reputation in the past for making more money than even Las Vegas. Last year the island’s casino industry was estimated to be worth $45 Billion which is seven times that of Las Vegas. However, following a business model where gamblers are able to borrow billions of dollars, late debt is crippling this business. Casino owners do not extend credit directly to patrons, junkets provide this service, and firms on the island are seemingly waiting for as long as a year  before many debts are repaid. They are experiencing […]

SNAG-0010

By Neha A. On December 6, 2014 • No comments yet

New Jersey online gaming

The governor of New Jersey has been hard at work this year (and last year), trying to overturn gambling laws to give residents of the Garden State access to all kinds of betting games. New Jersey may be home to Atlantic City and offer a handful of completely legalized online casinos (only for play inside of the state), but sports betting is a more complicated story. As is often the case with gambling in the United States; it a tricky one, fraught with difficulties. What has been going on in New Jersey, then? The governor signs a betting bill On […]
