Genting Group’s highly anticipated Resorts World Birmingham will begin a phased opening of their £150 million property in the populous city on October 21st. The company has mega-resorts in Manila, Singapore, Genting Highlands Malaysia, the Bahamas, a casino in New York City, and an integrated resort development on the Las Vegas Strip expected to open in 2018. All told, there are 40 casinos bearing the Genting name scattered around the globe. Resorts World “Brum” will be the largest casino in the U.K.
Stores and restaurants will begin opening on the 21st and the casino will open on October 26th. The four-star Genting Hotel, the only one in Europe, will open to the public November 2nd.
Once fully operational on November 2nd, the facility will boast fifty retail shops, eighteen bars and restaurants, an eleven screen cinema with IMAX and 3D capabilities, a conference center, 4-star luxury hotel, and Asian-themed spa center.
The National Exhibition Center arena has been renamed Genting Arena and will bear the name for at least the next 10 years. Officials expect the new NEC to receive about 2 million visits annually. The new resort should create more than 1,000 jobs for the area.
