A spokesperson for Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indian has announced that the Greektown Casino will be letting go of two percent of its workforce as the casino is in the grips of a deficit of fifteen million and counting. Among the reasons are the economic crunch from the housing market, oil prices and less frivolous spending. The employees will be eligible for unemployment. There is normally an appeals process but that is not available to workers right now. What effect this will have on the casino’s deficit is unknown but it is meant to help keep them afloat. There is alot of down-sizing in the industry right now, although not all places choose to let go of larger amounts of smaller employees instead of a few key larger ones.
