The votes are in and the Hard Rock Sioux City placed ninth on USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards’ 10 best U.S. casinos 2017 list, as announced by the news agency on Friday.

According to USA Today, Lisa Robertson-Dziedzic, Editorial Director of Strictly Slots and Casino Player magazines, along with travel agent Tony Harrell, who specializes in casino travel, were recruited to nominate their 20 favorite casinos among the more than 1,500 in the United States. Over a four-week period, USA Today 10Best readers voted for their favorites, dethroning Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California and making Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut this year’s number one.

The Sioux City Journal reports that patrons of the Iowa venue and others were repeatedly encouraged to vote for the property developed through a partnership between the Missouri River Historical Development and SCE Partners, LLC, an affiliate of Warner Gaming, LLC.

“We are beyond excited to receive this award as one of the best casinos in America,” said Hard Rock General Manager Todd Moyer in a news release cited by the Sioux City Journal. “It was only a matter of time until the rest of the country uncovered how special it is here in Siouxland, and I’m happy to see our community recognized on a national scale as an entertainment destination. This is a boon for our economy, our progress and our growth.”

The Top 10 list in descending order includes: Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa Las Vegas; Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City, Iowa; The Cromwell Hotel Las Vegas; Foxwoods Resort Casino Mashantucket, Connecticut; Peppermill Resort Spa Casino Reno, Nevada; Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Atlantic City, New Jersey; L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, Louisiana; Pechanga Resort & Casino Temecula, California; Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada; and Mohegan Sun Uncasville, Connecticut.

The Hard Rock Sioux City opened in 2014 and in addition to its AAA Four Diamond rated Hard Rock Hotel, offers more than 835 multi-denomination slot and video poker machines, including the state’s first 3D machines as well as 26 gaming tables. Other amenities include five restaurants, three bars, entertainment venues and the Rock Shop.

The Sioux City Journal reports that according to Moyer, the Hard Rock has been the recipient of upwards of 80 readers and guest choice awards from different media outlets, one of which includes the 2015 Iowa Tourism Award for Outstanding Attraction.
