In February, poker pro Maurice Hawkins tied Alex Masek for the most gold ring wins during World Series of Poker Circuit events, after winning an event hosted by the Palm Beach Kennel Club. Hawkins earned a win earlier this week while participating in yet another WSOPC tournament, this time surpassing Masek, becoming the new record holder for most gold rings won.
The 2017 Horseshoe Council Bluffs Main Event finished up with Hawkins earning the first place win worth $97,561. On top of being the new record holder for most WSOPC gold rings won, Hawkins is also the first player to win four Main Events on the circuit, taking over the top spot from Chris Ferguson and Blair Hinkle who were tied with three wins each, according to the WSOP.
Hawkins has done quite well during WSOPC events, having won more than $1.1 million during tournament game play as well as having won the Council Bluffs Main Event this year and in 2016. This year’s event had a buy-in of $1,675 and took place in no limit hold’em format. 271 players competed in the tournament, with Hawkins outlasting the field to take the first place finish and earning his 10th gold ring in the process.
Hawkins would earn the win after taking on William Perpich in heads-up play. When heads-up play began, Hawkins held a 2 to 1 chip lead. On the final hand, Perpich would go all in with A-K hearts and was called by Hawkins who held pocket sixes. With the board falling 6-5-5-8-A, Hawkins would win the hand with a full house, knocking Perpich out in 2nd place.
